The Great Escape

I don't think that last night could have been more amazing. There is no other place I would have rather been. Youth group in and of itself was fun, especially the new game we played. By the way, we need to think of a name for it. Any ideas? But afterwards, well that was a blast. Rolling down Ritchie Highway blasting The Great Escape with the windows down. How can it get any better than that? Well it can, but don't let me get ahead of myself. We chilled for a while at Starbucks, where I had my first Starbucks, well, anything. Then afterwards, and this was the climax of my night, it was Beccah, Matanda, DJ, Mike and me in the car. Yes DJ, Mike and me moshed to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus in the back seat. They got pictures of it, so you'll have to beg Matanda to see those. Wow, last night I got to do some of those things that I've always wanted to do. It couldn't have been better.

We The Kings

I'm gonna place my bets that sometime in the next two years, probably sooner, We The Kings is going to become super popular. I first heard of WTK back in January when they played at the Recher with Boys Like Girls (if you look back in the January archive of my blog, I actually mentioned them there). Back then I wasn't very impressed with their music, but just recently I looked them up, and they've recorded some new tracks that are amazing (you can hear these at purevolume.com/wethekings). On top of this, they're one of two artists that have been signed to s-curve records, the label that produced the hits Stacy's Mom and Who Let The Dogs Out, which reopenned a couple weeks ago after a two year hiatus. The band's self-titled debut is scheduled to be released this fall, but I have yet to know the date, or where to pre-order. If you love Boys Like Girls, You'll be crazy about We The Kings. I would've posted a song from youtube, but they're so under the radar right now, that there aren't any up. If you become a fan now, then you can say that you were a fan way before they were big. Over and Out.

Brattleboro, Vermont
(I took the time to write this. Please read it and comment)

Something about my mom's hometown really intrigues me. We visit Brattleboro at least twice a year, and there's this connection that I have with it that's so familiar yet so far away. It's so beautiful; the town is set on a hill leading down to the Connecticut river, which searates it from New Hampshire where Mount Wantastiquette provides an amazing backdrop for the town. Up here things go on at about the same pace as the suburbs, but on a smaller scale. The people who live up here all know each other because they're always running into each other. It certainly anything but a sleepy town. Downtown on Main Street there's always a crowd of people walking the sidewalks; it's basically the cultural center for the area. They have just about everything on main street, except of course for large store chains. Sam's Outdoor Outfitters is easily one of my favorites, because they have a popcorn macine right in the middle of the store where anyone can get free popcorn - and I must say, it's good. The culture here is noticeably different. There are a bunch of liberals, yeah, whatever. I've never seen so many long beards then when I'm here, it's really funny, any dred locks are fairly common, not like erybody has them, but you don't have to go far to spot them, even on a white girl. But above all this, I get to see my mom's side of the family when I'm here. Despite the fact that none of them are really Christians, I really enjoy being around my mom's family; It's big. My Aunts and uncles are always so relaxed; they have the best stories, and they're just so cool, and wow, they're all in great shape. Now I could go on forever, but I think I'll spare the reader and leave it there. I'm leaving for home in 3 1/2 hrs. Goodnight.

My Favorite Playlist

There's this one playlist that I made a while back that I keep updating, and I listen to it all the time. I named it Chillin' because all the songs are soft and easygoing (e.g Jack Johnson, The Shins, and, Regina Spektor) I always play this playlist at parties and whatnot. I've spent a lot of time perfecting it, making sure that all the songs belong and that the transitions between songs sound good. So here's the list in play order.

1. "Instrumental" - Braddigan (This guy is a friend of my uncle Chris he also has a band called "Dispatch")

2. "Situations" - Jack Johnson

3. "Better Part Of Me" - House Of Fools (One of my favorite songs ever)

4. "LA" - Message Of The Blues (This is the song from the BP commercial, but with it's original lyrics. You can only download this song from indie911)

5. "We Will Become Silhouettes" - The Shins (Originally by The Postal Service)

6. "Soul Meets Body" - Death Cab For Cutie

7. "My Life Before Today" - House Of Fools

8. "Yesterday Threw Everything At Me" - Athlete

9. "Never Know" - Jack Johnson

10. "Tenth Street" - Valencia

11. "Island In The Sun" - Weezer (What I'm currently listenning to)

12. "Fighting In A Sack" - The Shins (The Shins appear the most on this playlist out of any other band)

13. "We Itertwined" - The Hush Sound

14. "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" - KT Tunstall

15. "On The Table" - A. C. Newman

16. "Fallin' " - Braddigan

17. "Australia" - The Shins (Wincing The Night away is an amazing CD, you should buy it)

18. "Upside Down" - Jack Johnson

19. "Me And EveryoneI Know" - House Of Fools (Live And Learn is another really good CD)

20. "Suddenly I See" - KT Tunstall

21. "Crawling Towards The Sun" - The Hush Sound

22. "Staple It Together" - Jack Johnson

23. "You Got The Style" - Athlete

24. "Shiny Magazine" - Jet

25 "Gone For Good" - The Shins

26. "Bannana Pancakes" - Johnson

27. "Pura Vida" - Braddigan

28. "Devil In The Wishing Well" - Five For Fighting

29. "Modern Mafia" - Athlete

30. "Fidelity" - Regina Spektor ("it breaks my hea-a-a-a a-a-a a-a-a-a-a-art", yeah that song)

31. "Better Together" - Jack Johnson

32. "Get Happy" - House Of Fools

33. "New Slang" - The Shins (Amazing song)

34. "The Crossing" - Braddigan

35. "NYC Weather Report" - Five For Fighting

36. "Vehicles & Animals" - Athlete

38. "Shine On" - Jet (Another amazing song. Buy the CD)

39. "Phantom Limb" - The Shins (This song along with "New Slang" got me into The Shins)

40. "Robbers" - Cold War Kids (My history teacher of all people introduced me to this band)

41. "Soldier's Poem" - Muse (This song is very uncharacteristic for Muse, extremely mellow)

42. "The Riddle" - Five For Fighting

43. "Hey There Delilah" - Plain White T's (It's funny how this song is getting so popular all of a sudden since it's been around for a couple years)

44. "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" - Jack Johnson

45. "Eleanor" - Jet

46. "Turn On Me" - The Shins

47. "Seven Years" - Norah Jones

48. "Let That Be Enough" - Switchfoot (This was for their early years when they were fairly mellow)

49. "Lighthouse" - The Hush Sound

50."Live And Learn" - House Of Fools

51. "Kings Horses" - Jet (It annoys me how they left out the apostrophe in King's, LOL)

52. "Shake Those Windows" - Athlete (This song sonds really boring at first, but if you listen patiently, it builds up over it's 4 min. play time)

53. "Black Wave" - The Shins

54. "This Airplane Is A Ribbon" - Sherwood

55. "Daggers" - Braddigan

56. "Fortress" - Pinback

57. "Don't Know Why" - Norah Jones

58. "A Commet Appears" - The Shins

59. "Swing Life Away" - Rise Against (It's funny, Rise Against is a hardcore screamo band, but this one song is not only mellow, but brilliant)

60. "Those To Come" - The Shins

Here's What's New

Let me start form the last time I saw all you guys (it's been an entire month, 31 days to be exact). Well, I got a faux-hawk; (pronounced fo-hawk) it's awesome. I've been out of school for 2 weeks, surviving finals was quite a task, but I did it, and my grades were very good. Of course, I didn't get any awards on the last day, but that came as no surprise. About a week later, I packed up and went camping and beach-going with a bunch of friends. Here's the list Carrie Bisciotti, Caroline Kerr, Gilbert Horst, Natalie Stephens, my cousin - Gregg Dwyer, my other cousin - Teresa Belcher, and Erica Lease (just listing the people who were my age). There were a bunch of other people came along to, and we had an awesome time staying up late and going to the beach where the water was numbingly cold. But all good things must end. We had to leave a day early because of a tropical storm, and that was a huge downer.
Alex has been in Europe for the past two weeks, marking the longest we've ever gone without arguing. He'll be home tomorrow.
I've discovered a bunch of amazing new bands lately, but I don't want to bore you with that. I'm probably too late to avoid that anyway. I also bought some cool band T-shirts; once you get over it's annoyingly hardcore appearance, Hot Topic is a great place to buy band T-shirts, and they're really comfortable, but be careful, they shrink.
One last thing, Please coment on music videos, I want to know what you all think of my musical discoveries, and I want to know that people are actually reading my blog. Over and out.

Tokyo Police Club - Nature of the Experiment

My newest discovery, like 15 miutes ago. Pretty awesome. Coming to Sonar August 8.

And I just found out the wierdest thing. Chad Petree, the singer from Shiny Toy Guns (definitely not christian) has a brother named Stephen Petree, who acctually helped write some of STG's songs, who is a christian singer, like praise music. Yeah, wierd.

Here Are My Thoughts, Please Read

Well, this weekend was awesome. Josh did an awesome job as our youth leader. The guys dorm was fun; on Sat. night we were up 'til 11:30 even though lights out was at 10:30. The work wasn't unbearable, and without it, we wouldn't have found Jeff. I don't think I did anything stupid enough to regret this weekend, just a couple little things that don't even matter, and that's the norm with me anyway. I love our youth group.

Right now my life rocks, yeah it's true. Well, I'm a little stressed about finals, and this reasearch paper we're doing in History. But, ya know those personal problems that everyone seems to have that never ever go away? Well, it's been off of my back for weeks, but I'm still being careful not to let my guard down. I've been getting back into the swing of working out and running. I'm constantly growing closer to all of my friends at school and GBEPC, and I'm probably going to the beach with my school friends right after school gets out for a whole 3 day weekend. My only problem right now is in my relationships with my family, but those problems come and go, so I'll be fine. I could go on for ever, but the internet's gonna shut off in a couple minutes and I want this to post.

Switchfoot - Awakening (A Peter Petrelli Heroes FanVid)

I love Switchfoot, I love this song, I love Heroes and Peter Petrelli is one of my favorite characters. Not to mention the fact that this guy did this song far better justice than it's actual music video which came out yesterday.

They're playing at the Meriwether Post Pavilion with Fall Out Boy in June

The Shins - Phantom Limb

They played this song on SNL two weeks ago. Now I'm a huge fan.
The video is slightly annoying, but the song is awesome.

This is so cool. These guys should go on tour with Shiny Toy
Guns. This makes me want to dance.

The World Came Alive

I love Spring, and today is a sure sign that it's on it's way. During spring I get renewed energy, running is enjoyable again, and I have the insentive to work out, a trend that usually stays with me through the fall. Everything is so alive, everyone is always outdoors, and I don't feel so cooped up. I'm all for freedom and independence and Spring and Summer are the best times for both. Today when I ran, it was actually warm, and there were people all over the B&A trail, so, despite the fact that I ran alone, I didn't feel alone. This has been a good day; I've listened to good music and had nothing to worry about. The only way it could be any better is if I could hang out with my friends.

The Postal Service - Such Great Heights

This is my all-time fave. I love the electronic effects, and how they fit perfectly with the lyrics. The vid. isn't much to look at, but the
song... absolutely amazing

The Good and the Bad

So, this is for the people dying for an update.
Let's see, it starts out with the bad, well, the ugly in fact. On Mon. I got back a geometry test and it was a 50%, which is bad enough by it's self, but the fact that it was my first geo test below an A makes it even more frustrating, but whatever, there's nothing I can do about it. Things did get better though. I haven't had too much homework for the past two nights (I had a ton on Mon. though). OK, one more annoying thing. I'm one of the only ones not doing Lacrosse so none of my friends, except my cousin Gregg, can hang out after school. Anyway, last night's American Idol completely sucked, but I was really excited when Chris Sligh (who didn't really sound great, but who cares) sang a MuteMath song ("Typical"). Yeah that was cool. Today was awesome; the weather was perfect, and I actually wanted to run, so I put out 7 miles. We have Fri. off for the variety show, which is going to really good. Even though Rockbridge is small, there are a lot of really talented students there. You can buy tickets and get info at rockbridge.org. So that just about sums it up.

P.S. Please comment on music videos, i want to know what you think of my musical taste.

Agent Sparks - Pollyanne

I heard this song a long time ago, but I didn't really like it untill now. It is kinda wierd though.

Thursday, February 15, 2007

Earthsuit - One Time / MuteMath - Reset

Before you watch this, no, I'm not a fan of Earthsuit, but the rapper (Paul Meany, who sounds completely rediculous here) is the amazing singer from Mute Math, one of my all time favorite bands. I just wish they had picked one of the MuteMath songs that actually had lyrics.

Monday, February 12, 2007

Jonezetta - Get Ready (Hot Machette)

I timed this one just perfectly (the vid. takes place at a ski lodge)
Awesome song

FM Static - Definitely Maybe

this is for the Hawk Nelson fans

Quick Update

I figured that I'd give my devoted readers (lol) a little update on my life in the past couple weeks. For a couple weeks I've been slacking in my running (blah!). I just finished a CD buying craze where I bought about 15 CDs in 2 weeks, but I got them on Amazon.com for really cheap. I went to a concert on Fri. (I posted on that earlier). It was really rough, but the last two bands (Self Against City, and Boys Like Girls) were awesome, and now I have a totally new perspective on personal space after being squished on all sides with hair in my mouth and all the other peculiarities of tight crowds that can be imagined (yeah, use your imagination). School's been OK. I've had a bunch of crappy conversations with a bunch of people that I don't want to talk to (ya know, the people who try to act cool, and expect you to want to hang out with them because they think they're cool), and some of the people that I actually want to talk to are always busy. I did have a good group conversation after school today though. Some of the good friends that I have at school are pretty awesome, and yes, they're preppy and that's cool. There's not much more to report, at least nothing that I'm willing to post here. I'm about to watch American Idol because I'm a dork, yep American Idol is dorky, but I watch it anyway (lol). g'nite

Officially Slightly Disappointed And Halfway Psyched

The concert date is barely more than a week away, and I've been feverishly planning for the past few days. None of the girls can come (CRAP!). Two of them are going skiing and the other one wasn't allowed to go, and she was really dissappointed. So now it's just gonna be the guys, that's me, Dana, Gilbert, and Gregg (basically the "cool" guys). We'll still have fun, but it's gonna be different. I guess we won't have to worry about rough crowds as much.

CONCERT!!!

My dad decided to let me go to a concert finally, and I bought my tickets last night!

The main act is Boys Like Girls (cheesy name, but frikin amazing band. I posted one of their songs a few weeks ago. Also go to purevolume.com/boyslikegirls). The others are Self Against City (purevolume.com/selfagainstcity), Local (purevollume.com/local), Last Conservative (purevolume.com/lastconservative), and We The Kings (purevolume.com/wethe kings), all of which are really good, especially Last Conservative. The venue is Recher Theater is Towson (theres no seating, halelujah!). Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on Fri. Feb. 2nd.

I have a bunch of friends from school who really want to go. Carrie, Gilbert, Natalie have heard Boys Like Girls and really like their music, are definite yes's if they are allowed to go, and Caroline Gregg and Dana, wo still haven't heard anything from the band will want to go just because we're getting a group together even if they don't like the music.

post more later

Break the Same (percussion ending) - MuteMath

MuteMath is one of the coolest bands I know, I saw them in concert with Switchfoot and they did this same percussion at the end of "Break the Same," except they did it better at the Baltiomore concert, and it's even cooler when you're there.
